The time is vastly approaching when I will be heading off to the Dominican Republic for two and a half weeks! It hasn’t registered in my head yet that I’m actually going as of yet. I’m a tad bit nervous because I’ve never been outside the country without my family before. I’m worried about not having that security that you have when you’re traveling with family. If I forget something I know for sure my mom has packed it. If I need anything at all or want to do something, I know my family has my back. This is my first big girl trip and I’m not 100% ready. However, I know once I’m there, everything will go great and I’ll enjoy myself.
I am eager to see the education system in the Dominican Republic. All I’ve known is the education system in New York and never got to experience another state’s, yet another country’s, education system. This will also be interesting to view from a teacher candidate’s perspective. I am itching to see the pedagogical styles used and how they may or may not differ from techniques used in the United States. I would be lying if I said the education system was the only thing I am looking forward to. Embarrassingly enough, I am most excited to try authentic Dominican food. I have planned my spending money mainly around food: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course snacks and desserts. I want to learn about the Dominican culture through all of its different spices and meals. It’s about time I get to packing so that I won’t forget anything. Stay tuned for m y blogs in the Dominican Republic
