Well it's official!! The first item of clothing is in the suitcase!
This is my first time taking a step like this and I am so excited for this journey. I have traveled with my family before within the country but never outside the country! I am nervous but so EXCITED!! Can you tell? I wanted to travel to the Dominican Republic with Buffalo State not for the sights and adventure but for the opportunity to work with the children and families while there. I first heard about the trip during my education class last spring. I figured I would just listen but not sign up for details because...well...it would be WAY too expensive (which it still is hehe); however as I listened I became more and more attached to what was being said. A catch formed in my throat and a flutter simmered in my stomach, and I knew that this was a trip I needed to take part in no matter what! So I signed up for more information and went home and told my parents that if I got accepted to go, I was saving the money and definitley going. The idea of teaching English in a local school was an experience I wanted, but what caught me the most was the ability to work with the girls at the Miraposa DR Foundation. Their story and their struggles as young girls are inspiring and I wanted to be a part of helping the women of the DR end generational poverty and continue to create their stories. Yes before you ask; I am also excited because it's THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC= BEACHES!! I am excited for the educational opportunities but also for the views, beaches, adventures and atmosphere that come along with leaving Buffalo, NY in January for the DR. Welcome to my adventure! More to follow soon :)
