Although I cannot change how math is being taught in DR, I can start with my own classroom. Being as effective as possible by really focusing on the needs of students and paying close attentions to what they do not know and what they need to know. In New York, when one is studying to be a teacher I feel as though things are rushed and students needs are sometimes over looked to meet the expectations of the state, and students are passed from grade to grade without fully comprehending some material, sort of like here in DR. I could say that I want to drop everything in my life to come live here and teach but being here reminded me of how much work I need to do at back at home to ensure the success of the youth, by showing the patience and support through effective and detailed lesson plans, as well as a safe classroom environment. My trip was coming to an end, but I felt like I had just begun a new journey of how I will live and change my life for the good when I reach home.
